Raising Your Children for Christ
Published in Paperback by Whitaker House (September, 1997)
Author: Andrew Murray
Average review score:

An inspiring and challenging call to purposeful parenting
A biblically based work focusing on the obligation of Christian parents to train their children to serve Christ and reminding us of God's promise that our prayers and efforts will not go unrewarded. Chapters are short and readable. The author spares us cute stories and focuses instead on biblical examples, exhortations and promises. Stresses no-nonsense, disciplined parenting and hierarchical family structure. Prayer, self-sacrifice and diligence are constant refrains. I was particularly encouraged by his explanation why teaching your children to honor others and exhibit proper manners is crucial to their spiritual development. Highly recommended.

Recipes for Writing: Motivation, Skills, and Activities
Published in Paperback by Addison-Wesley Pub Co (August, 1988)
Authors: Murray Suid and Wanda Lincoln
Average review score:

Wanda Lincoln
I attended a reading and writing workshop in Dayton Ohio this summer where Wanda Lincoln spoke. Wow! This was such an opportunity! I enjoyed the presentation, obviously. I found it very interesting that Ms. Lincoln did not advertise her books in anyway, yet simple mentioned them without ever refering to herself as author. This book is particularly good for grades 5-8 and I would recommend it to anyone.

Redefining the Self: Selected Essays on Swift, Poe, Pinter, and Joyce
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (August, 2001)
Author: John Condon Murray
Average review score:

AN AUTHORITATIVE, SCHOLARLY, AND STIMULATING BOOK.
The essays in this volume examine the conflict of 'self' in society as a leitmotif in Swift's Gulliver's Travels, Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher, Pinter's The Dwarfs, The Lover, The Caretaker, and The Homecoming, and Joyce's great modern classic, Ulysses. In his analysis, Murray discusses the ideas of behavioral and ideological conformity in Swift's work. He examines Poe's use of the grotesque to suggest correlations between the moral, physical, and spiritual degeneration of the characters, and the natural decay of their environment. Murray analyzes Pinter's dramas and suggests how the characters within the plays use language to create spatial boundaries to make themselves impervious to the language of their 'social others.' Murray's final essay concentrates on the use of role-playing and misidentification in Joyce's novel. Murray brilliantly bridges the generations and synergizes some of the most influential works of literature within his critical study. New readers and nonspecialists will find his essays to be accessible and well researched. Scholars and advanced students will appreciate his analyses of recent developments in literary theory. Murray presents a work that is at once authoritative, scholarly, and stimulating.

Reefs and Rain Forests: The Natural Heritage of Malaysian Borneo
Published in Hardcover by Reefs and Rain Forests Pubs. (October, 2002)
Author: Murray S. Kaufman
Average review score:

A magnificent example of nature photography
Reefs And Rain Forests by Murray S. Kaufman is a stunningly beautiful compilation of full-color nature photography. Very little text or captions get in the way of the natural and visual splendor of full-page photographs of exotic reef life, fantastic tropical birds and insects, lush rainforests, and much more. Brief photographer's notes at the end round out the story behind these incredible images. Reefs And Rain Forests is highly recommended as a magnificent example of nature photography and would make a superb Memorial Fund acquisition for school or community library collections.

Reflections on Commercial Life
Published in Paperback by Routledge (November, 1996)
Author: Patrick Murray
Average review score:

Excellent collection of human arrival at commerce
Commerce IS Western society and has been since our Puritan founders disclosed divinity in the ethos: work hard. From Calvinism, we have developed the Gila Monster (as John Steinbeck puts it) called capitalism, and now it develops and controls us, dollar for dollar.

Patrick Murray gives us a guided tour of commercial life via classical and contemporary texts: Aristotle reminds us of the purpose of money in commercial exchanges as well as our contradiction in the form of usury (using money to "breed" money, collect interest). Aquinas allows us refuge from usurious sin by examining consumable forms of capital (money) and non-consumable forms of capital (like an apartment for rent). Then, there's John Locke's labor and Invisible Hand, David Hume's luxury, and probably most importantly, Karl Marx's Capital.

After Marx, the book takes an interesting shift into Weber's "spirit of capitalism," Bataille's examination of gifts, Weil's "bigness," and others.

This is one of the most important books I have ever read. The social form peculiar to commercial society is, like language, so close to us that we often can't see it. Even recommending this book, I am asking you to participate in a commercial exchange: you SELL your labor power to your employer; "they" give you a wage and keep the excess value you've produced; you BUY this book, read it, and suddenly understand how it all works.

Religion that Harms, Religion that Heals: Celebrating the Power of the Human Spirit
Published in Hardcover by Crimson Light Books (01 January, 2002)
Author: Celia M. Murray Dunn
Average review score:

A no-holds-barred look at true natures of religious belief
Religion That Harms, Religion That Heals: Celebrating The Power Of The Human Spirit By Celia M. Murray Dunn is an incisive, no-holds-barred look at the true natures of religious belief, both benign and brutal. Religions espouse love and peace, yet they also bring so-called holy wars and inhumanity. Religion That Harms, Religion That Heals studies the weaknesses of organized religion and how they can all too easily fall prey from within to human vices. At the same time, Religion that Harms, Religion that Heals is not a one-sided attack because it also recognizes the positive qualities of religion and spirituality, and brings the reader on a journey to better make sense of both the physical and metaphysical world. Religion That Harms, Religion That Heals is very highly recommended for students of religion and human history.

Author: Murray E. Fowler
Average review score:

Get this book!
An excellent information source for the novice or expert animal handler. I use this book extensively for handling of my animals, non of which are exotics. Fowler describes each technique clearly, in terms everyone can understand. This book will be a valued addition to any library whether you're a farmer, zookeeper or dog owner.

Robert Murray M'Cheyne: A Biography
Published in Paperback by Zondervan (May, 1983)
Author: A. Bonar
Average review score:

A Bright Shining Star
Robert Murray M'Cheyne's short life was full of the grace of God. Andrew Bonar, his dear friend, knew him well enough, and had enough of his personal writings to portray a helpful, and edifying picture of his life. Although this small volume is hard to find, it is included in the larger "Remains of McCheyne".

Roman Military Equipment: Experiment and Reality (Journal of Roman Military Equipment Studies, Vol 6)
Published in Paperback by Oxbow Books Ltd (April, 1997)
Author: C Van Driel-Murray
Average review score:

Reconstruction of the Cheiroballista
This book is essential for researching the cheiroballista. It has many diagrams, measurements. Importantly it addresses the interpretation of other publications and replicas of the cheiroballista. On another note although the reconstruction of the cheiroballista is a good part of this book, it is a journal and contains other articles referencing roman equipment.

I will add this book to my "got to have library."

Other books that have found important for ballista are:
Payne Gallway, "The Crossbow"
Marsden, Eric William. Greek and Roman artillery; technical treatises
Marsden, Eric William. Greek and Roman artillery; historical development
